Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

The theme of persecution runs consistently like a scarlet thread throughout the book of Revelation. God’s people are promised persecution and suffering for the sake of Christ and His gospel.
The church at Smyrna was suffering for their faith in Christ during John’s day, just as so many have suffered throughout the centuries unto this very day.
The call to follow Christ is the call to remain faithful … even unto death.
