But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give a defense to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you. But respond with gentleness and respect. (1 Peter 3:15)
In a culture full of skepticism and confusion, believers are often challenged to provide a reasonable defense for their faith. Unfortunately, many followers of Christ are ill equipped to give a reason for the hope they have.
To be a committed follower of Christ, it is essential to know and understand what you believe. The faithful should have a foundational understanding of the gospel message. However, it is not enough to know only what you believe, but more importantly why you believe.

This is what the Bible calls apologetics — or the ability to provide reasonable answers to the objections of our faith. While apologetics may not always lead a skeptic to Christ, it will at least silence their faulty presuppositions and give him more to consider.
In the following teaching from 1 Peter, I address the importance of apologetics in a believer’s life and share practical examples of how to always be prepared to give an answer.
